Forklift Truck overview
Forklifts are essential machines designed to lift, move, and transport heavy loads. They typically include a mast with hydraulic lifting mechanisms, forks for picking up materials, and a wheeled chassis for mobility. Because of their versatility, forklifts appear in warehouses, factories, and construction sites, where they handle pallets, containers, and many other items. They also come in several types—such as electric, diesel, and gas-powered models—so operators can choose the best option for their environment and load requirements. To ensure safe and efficient material handling, operators must receive proper training, follow safety protocols, and maintain the equipment regularly.
N001 Industrial Counterbalance Lift Truck – course objectives

To begin, operators learn the fundamentals of the industry, including common risks and their responsibilities as plant operators. This foundation helps them work more safely and effectively.
They will then become familiar with the manufacturer’s handbook for their specific machine. During this stage, they identify major components and understand the purpose of each part, which supports correct operation and maintenance.
Operators will also learn to locate and use the steering, driving, and braking controls. They must show that they can use these controls safely and efficiently while manoeuvring the machine in different environments.
Pre-operational checks will be covered thoroughly. Operators learn how to mount and dismount the machine safely, start and stop the engine, and prepare the truck for travel. They also practise moving the machine in both open and confined spaces and carrying out essential on-site safety checks.
Finally, the training will focus on lifting and load handling tasks. Operators will practice fitting and adjusting attachments, lift and transfer loads safely, and load or unload external transport. They also review proper procedures for transporting the machine and completing end‑of‑shift shutdown tasks so the equipment remains ready for future use.
